About the Faculty
The Faculty started to function in 1971 as the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. In 1978, the Faculty was transformed into the Faculty of Economics and Technology; in 1997 - into the Faculty of Art and Technology, in 2017 - into the Faculty of Design.

Currently, the faculty has 311 students and 52 teachers. Among the teachers of creative disciplines there are 18 members of the Union of Designers and 8 members of the Union of Artists of Belarus.

The Faculty has established an art school, which is known far beyond the borders of Belarus. Teachers and students of art specialities win prizes and awards of the highest rank at international, republican, regional and city festivals, competitions and exhibitions.
The students of the faculty take part in the folk choreographic ensemble «Vitebchanka», vocal studio, studios of modern and pop dancing, «Defile», «Club of the Funny and Inventive» and other groups. Student Fashion House is very popular and students of artistic specialities work there. Students take part in the annual festival «Golden Melody of Autumn», Vitebsk regional interuniversity competition of grace and artistry «Queen of Spring» and other events.

History of the Department
The Department of Design and Fashion of VSTU was organised in 1975. The first admission on speciality ‘Artistic design of textile and light industry products’ was 10 people. Eight teachers worked at the department. A lot of strength, energy, talent in the formation of the department, in the development of teaching methods of the basics of composition, special composition, painting, drawing, art history were invested by those who stood at the origins: the first head of the department, associate professor, member of the Artist Union(AU)of the USSR M.F. Rybalkina, senior lecturer A.N. Filipenko, associate professor V.A. Sorokin, associate professor, member of the USSR AU A.V. Nekrasov.
Since the middle 80s the department has been enriched with young teachers, many of them are graduates of the Department of Design and Fashion of VSTU. At present 28 teachers work at the department, almost all of them are either members of the Union of Artists or members of the Belarusian Union of Designers, they constantly show themselves at city, regional, republican, international exhibitions, competitions of fashion designers of clothes and footwear.
The Department of Design and Fashion does a lot of work to improve the curricula for students of artistic specialities. The curricula include also disciplines such as decorative painting, special drawing, project graphics, computer graphics, colour science, special composition, which are the basis of the development of a specialist’s creative personality.
The department has a museum of Belarusian folk art and an exhibition hall, where exhibitions of students' works in painting, graphics, composition with demonstration of samples made in material are constantly held.
The department has established close contact with the industry, advertising firms, and successfully works on solving actual problems connected with the artistic design of textile products, costume modelling, the creation of information-advertising and volumetric-spatial objects.
Students and graduates of the Department of Design and Fashion constantly participate in national, international art events, competitions and festivals, winning prizes and awards.
During its existence at the Department of Design and Fashion of Vitebsk State Technological University an art school has been created, which has been recognised by creative unions and industry

Currently the Department of Foreign Languages dynamically reacts to the demands of time in obtaining high-quality language training, implements educational initiatives with the support of colleagues and university management, and actively participates in popularizing the achievements of students in projects and competitions in foreign languages.
The department has every reason to be proud of its teachers, who have high professional qualifications and experience in the practice of translation and teaching for students of different ages and different levels, and also accepts young specialists, provides an opportunity to constantly improve their scientific and pedagogical qualifications.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports was founded in 1965 (until 1995 it was called «Physical Education»).
Arkady Shur, the first head of the Department, an honored coach of the BSSR, led the department from 1966 to 1975.
In total, the University has 21 sports improvement groups in 23 sports, where 294 students from the 2nd category to the Master of Sports are engaged. There are 8 sports sections, 5 for students living in the dormitory and 3 sections at the sports club.
The Department of Physical Culture and Sports has the following material base: a sports complex (Vitebsk, Tereshkova St., 13v) with a swimming pool, an aerobics room, a gym, a gym and a recovery center; a gym in the 1st and 2nd academic buildings, and an aerobics room in the academic building No. 4. It also has a stadium with a football field and an athletics track.
